The Situation in Vietnam

While the official annual number of abortions in Vietnam is 300,000, the estimated amount according to the Hanoi Central Obstetrics Hospital is closer to a million. This would mean that Vietnam holds the world’s highest abortion rate at 91 women out of every 1000, aged 15-39, who had an abortion in a single year.

PassionLife conducted its first training in Vietnam in 2017 upon the invitation of David and Pushpa Waters, who have continued to spearhead PassionLife’s work in all provinces. Today, over 52,000 believers have been equipped through our one-day training in Vietnam, including provincial and area leaders of more than 1,100 churches who are now teaching their congregations. Our goal is to see every church trained and engaged in their community in the valuing of human life.

Our Strategy in Vietnam

Teaching the 4 Questions in a biblical, logical, and concise manner leads listeners to:

  1. Treasure human life
  2. Reject abortion
  3. Proclaim the Gospel, including Christ’s forgiveness, resulting in freedom from guilt.
  4. Rescue unborn babies by reaching one mother at a time.

Our strategy is to encourage rapid replication of our teaching content within local churches so that mothers and babies are rescued from abortion and come to faith in Christ.

The Church in Vietnam as an Army of Good Samaritans

The Church in Vietnam is mature and courageous, extending to all provinces, making it well-poised to lead locally and nationally in the fight for life, once it hears God’s heart on the issue.

The 4 Questions Training has been changing people’s perspectives, including those of believers in Hanoi. Rather than seeing abortion as a medical issue, they began to recognize the underlying moral issue, empowering them to speak up for the unborn.

Upon completing the 4 Questions Training, many pastors and believers have initiated their own training in new areas and sometimes new language groups. One local pastor has now trained about 20,000 believers. As locals translate the materials, we race to print them and have them transported to the remotest regions of Vietnam. Thousands of men and women have repented and received healing.

Now, churches are becoming aware and engaged in helping pregnant and single moms; babies are being saved; the message of life is being proclaimed in churches and to their communities; Counseling Corners are opening at local clinics. Ultimately, families are transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Breakthroughs in Vietnam

The 4 Question training is now run in the following languages: Vietnamese, Hmong, Dao, Khmer, and Ko Ho. And our goal is to make our training materials available in 7 more local languages, with training already underway among the Jarai, Hre, and Gia Trieng. Click on Training Resources to track our progress.

Books and manuals are printed with government permission. 44,000 of our 4 Question training manuals and other materials were printed this year, including the book, My Little Book about Big Issues, which teaches the purpose and connection between sex, marriage, and babies, confronting the ungodly myth of ‘safe sex.’ We pray it will help teenagers make responsible choices, lead to stronger families, and help prevent pre-marital sex, unwanted pregnancy, and abortion.

A local believer works alongside David and Pushpa by addressing the needs of young women who are posting questions regarding abortion in online forums, like: “I want to abort, can you help me?” To date, she has helped over 100 women keep their babies and connect with local churches. The wall in front of her desk is plastered with photos of smiling mothers holding their babies.
